About the Role

This senior or principal software-engineering role is part of the Optalysys Architecture group. It focuses on an internal simulation system for a novel photonic computing architecture used in areas such as AI and fully homomorphic encryption. The position is permanent and full-time, based remotely in the United Kingdom, with travel to Optalysys hubs in the United Kingdom or United States.

Responsibilities

• Develop the in-house full-system simulation environment.
• Build methods to measure latency, utilization, hot spots, and related performance data.
• Connect the simulator with the wider toolchain so real applications can run in simulation.
• Integrate higher-level frameworks such as PyTorch, ONNX Runtime, and HEIR.
• Support pre-tapeout verification, system bring-up, documentation, and mentoring.
• Capture software requirements and track delivery against engineering metrics.

Required Experience and Skills

• At least ten years of Python or C/C++ experience.
• Knowledge of Python event simulators such as SimPy.
• Strong knowledge of system-on-chip and memory architectures.
• Experience with testing frameworks, specifications, test plans, and reports.
• Clear communication with both technical and non-technical audiences.

Preferred Experience

Additional useful knowledge includes AI or machine learning, high-performance computing, cryptography, Rust, Jira, Jenkins, performance analysis, continuous-integration pipelines, and Git.
